In no way a cult!

John Sweeney's report on Scientology for Panorama might be the best piece of TV I get to see all year. I know little about Scientology, so was interested to see what came out of this documentary: the fact that it has a number of high-profile fruitloop advocates doesn't really worry me as, to be fair, doesn't Catholicism have Cliff Richard? Also, I read an interview with Beck a while ago where he talked about his commitment to the faith and I don't have him down as some vacuous air-headed Hollywood type. However, I have to admit to a skeptical curiosity about L Ron Hubbard - he seems an, um, interesting character.

I'm just thinking that my writing on this is a little guarded - probably not surprising after watching Sweeney's trials and tribulations. You can see it at the BBC website here (for now, anyway).
